Code of Ethics


Relational Ethics

I commit to the safety of my participants through:

  • Conducting screening and preparation to ensure it is medically and mentally safe to proceed and that the participant has the support and stability of resources to engage in a journey.

  • Providing clear information on support availability and emergency contact information before any journeys.

  • Taking an active role in preventing physical and psychological harm and informing participants of the actions I will take to ensure their safety.

  • Being responsive in crisis situations according to a pre-established crisis response plan and immediately contacting local emergency services if a medical emergency occurs.

  • Providing consistent care and never abandoning a participant through proper termination and referral procedures that include thorough post-journey integration.

I will respect each participant's right to make informed choices through:

  • Obtaining informed consent including providing information on all procedures as well as alternative treatment options while honoring the participants right to withdraw consent at any time in the process.

 I will always obtain consent and offer touch only for therapeutic purposes through:

  • Using clinical judgment on when to use touch and obtaining consent both prior to a journey as well as in the moment and discussing consent for touch and its purpose during intake including establishing “stop” words and gestures.

I will act in accordance with the trust placed in me by participants through:

  • Striving to build relationships on trust, safety, and clear agreements so participants' needs are prioritized through respect of their autonomy, their inner healing intelligence, and their deeply personal and unique needs and experiences.

  • Treating people reaching out for services with respect, compassion, and humility.

  • Firmly upholding professional boundaries while acknowledging power differentials and examining my own countertransference and unconscious bias.

  • Avoiding dual relationships using careful consideration about continuing interactions outside of the scope of treatment.

I will not engage in sexual touch with participants through: 

  • Taking responsibility for upholding clear professional boundaries to participants and  participants' family members during and after treatment.

  • Respecting participants' sexual identity, expression and, process that might relate to sexuality and sexual healing.

I respect the value of diversity through:

  • Examining my own biases, deepening my cultural understandings, and respecting participants' unique experience and limitations.

I attend to special considerations working with expanded states of consciousness through:

  • Having increased awareness of safety, sexual boundaries, and consent considering the vulnerability inherent in working with expanded states of consciousness for both the practitioner and the participant. I seek supervision accordingly.

  • Representing the modality of therapy with professionalism and accuracy when communicating with the public, including through the media, social media and presentations.

I commit to ongoing professional and personal self-reflection regarding ethics and integrity through:

  • Practicing ongoing self-compassion and self-inquiry, and seeking professional and community resources for any of my own emotional or personal challenges.

  • Subscribing to the values of humility and respect toward the transformative power of our work and toward human dignity.

Confidentiality Ethics

I commit to the privacy of my participants and uphold professional standards of confidentiality through:

  • Revealing participant information only when mandated, for the purpose of supervision in accordance with the applicable privacy laws, or with explicit permission from the participant.

  • Discussing, during screening, the limitations of confidentiality and informed consent, and by explaining any obligations around mandated reporting and safety.

  • Gaining consent on acceptable contact methods 

  • Securely storing client records 

Referral Ethics

I commit to practice within my scope of competence, training and experience specific to the populations I am working with and the modalities I offer through:

  • Representing my work and qualifications honestly and accuratel,y including the practice of screening  participants to assess if their needs can be met through my scope of competence. 

  • Committing to ongoing education, professional development, supervision and maintaining any licenses and certifications where applicable.

Financial Ethics

I maintain clear communication with participants about fees and aspire to increase financial access to services through:

  • Establishing clear and honest business practices including fee disclosures, payment procedures, and transparency in what is being offered.

  • Offering treatment only when I believe my services have a therapeutic value for the participant. 

  • Never accepting compensation for referrals or providing treatment solely for financial gain. 

  • Creating opportunities for participants who need services but cannot afford them.
